During the World Congress of Trauma and Emergency Leagues, held at University of Campinas from August 3rd to 5th, the School of Medical Science (SMS) of University of Campinas (Unicamp) received three outstanding professors from Qatar: Sandro Rizoli, Ruben Peralta and Hassan Al-Thani. The WCTEL received 32 international speakers, from 19 countries.

Sandro Rizoli
Former student (class XVII, 1984 @medicinaunicamp@alumni) and resident (SMS, Unicamp), director of the Trauma and Emergency Center at Doha, Qatar. He worked at University of Toronto for 25 years, and moved to Qatar in 2018 with the mission of join the organization of the trauma system for the World Soccer Cup in 2022;

Ruben Peralta
Professor and director of Trauma, Emergency and Surgery Critical Care Fellowship Program at Hamad General Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), in Doha, was born in the Dominican Republic, trained at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and has authored or co-authored over 300 medical publications and book chapters addressing a broad range of surgical topics. Peralta attended the “Program of Specialist Visiting Professor for Undergraduate” of Undergraduate Studies Office (PRG) of Unicamp in 2020, few days before the Covid-19 pandemic;

Hassan Al-Thani
Head of Trauma and Vascular Surgery Sections of Hamad General Hospital, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his surgical training in both Qatar and Canada. He completed his training in General Surgery, Trauma and Vascular Surgery at McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences in Hamilton, Canada. In 2004, after completion of his training, he joined Hamad General Hospital as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Al Thani is the author or co-author of more than two hundred publications and peer-reviewed articles.
